Last Eight Begins Tomorrow With An All I-League Affair

INDIAN SUPER CUP PREVIEW

As quickly as the round of sixteen has finished, the quarter-finals begin. The last eight kicks off with an all I-League clash between Aizawl FC and East Bengal.

Get Those Alarms Set

Both sides saw off ISL competition to make it this far as Aizawl saw off ISL Champions Chennaiyin and East Bengal beat a depleted Mumbai side. That being said, they both deserve their place in the last eight and this will mark the third occasion that the pair will have locked horns this season.

Kick-off is at 11:30 am (UK Time) tomorrow (Sunday) morning, so while you’re nursing your hangover, have a little watch of this as the pair of them have been inseparable so far this season.

In late November last year, two goals in six second-half minutes looked to have given East Bengal all three points, but, a brace from William Lalnunfela meant that the spoils were shared between them both. William’s second came incredibly deep into stoppage time, the 96th minute to be precise.

More recently, in January, they once again finished the game with a point apiece as both teams failed to break the deadlock. Let’s hope the game tomorrow is more like that first game rather than the latest one.

If History Tells Us Anything, This Will Be A Draw

Historically, this game produces a draw more often than not, the seven times the pair of them have met, the draw has been the outcome on four occasions. So, the smart money would be on the draw, yes East Bengal finished with seven points more than their opponents, nonetheless, they do have a habit of cancelling each other out.

Saying that, Ionescu is the one to watch for me. Period. I’m not going to bother going on about any of the other plays because Ionescu will be the one who decides the game. That’s the conclusion I’ve arrived at and that’s what I’m sticking with.

Not much else to say on the matter, to be honest, let’s be having you! Enjoy your weekend.

Until the next time.
