Did Kerala Blasters fans rig the goal of the week award?
CK Vineeth’s diving header was the goal that finally meant Rene Meulensteen and Kerala Blasters could taste victory in this season’s ISL and it was a fine goal. Equally good, you could argue, was Dhanapal Ganesh’s winning header for Chennaiyin FC against Bengaluru FC.
So far, no controversy. However, it is believed (mainly by Chennaiyin fans) that the award went to Vineeth because Kerala fans had hacked into the official Indian Super League website and fixed the vote in his favour.
A source at ISL HQ was also raising their eyebrow in a suspicious manner. “We cannot speak about this issue as of yet, but there is a strong suspicion that something fishy is going on, as Kerala Blasters players always seem to win these awards,” said the source.
Now, if only Kerala fans could fix it so that their team could get in the playoffs.
Vineeth and Rino Anto engage in what football types call “banter”
Yes, it’s rather quiet for actual ISL news at the moment which is why we are reporting the Twitter conversation between CK Vineeth and Rino Anto which is, in fact, nothing more than a bit of chit-chat between two bored teammates. CK Vineeth opened up a fans Q&A session on his account and drew Anto in for some “hilarious” chat. In fairness, it’s probably not even worth going to find.
Robin Singh injured, again
Robin Singh scored ATK’s first winning goal of this season at the weekend but then limped off injured.
Teddy Sheringham is concerned that he might be without his matchwinner for some time.
“If you seem him in the changing room now, you’ll see that it is pretty serious. It’s just one thing after another for us at the moment. He’s gone over on his ankle and he already had a bad knee. We were trying to look after that in the last couple of weeks. I am not sure how long it will be but it doesn’t look good at the moment”.
Singh suffered a cruciate ligament injury that kept him out last season and will have been hoping that his goal signalled the start of a good season. Hopefully, we will see the self-proclaimed best striker in the league back very soon.
